A VINTAGE amusement arcade featuring classic computer games from the 1970s, 80s and 90s could be on its way to Barnsley.

Retrodome will open in the former Unipart Automotive on Upper New Street, near Morrisons, if plans for change of use are approved by the council.

The man behind it is Chris Thompson who has a collection of more than 40 games include Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Street Fighter, and Burger Time.

“It just started as a hobby, buying them and fixing them up with my dad,” said Chris 21, of Underhill, Worsbrough Dale.

“We then had the idea of an amusement arcade, all done out with a retro game theme.

“It’s an up-and-coming area of Barnsley, with the new McDonald’s coming, and Papa John’s and the new meat shop. Plus what’s happening in the town centre. There’s a lot of investment happening Barnsley so it seems a really good time.”

Customers would pay an entrance fee to gain access all the machines, and drinks and snacks will also be available.

A decision is expected by April 17.
