ROGUE landlords across the district will continue to be tackled in the coming year, the Chronicle can reveal.

The North East Area Council, which pioneered a scheme to clamp down on issues at hotspots in Grimethorpe and Royston throughout last year, has again set aside funding to continue an enforcement officer’s role for the next 12 months.

Jeanette Millward, the private housing officer who was initially employed to act as a go-between for landlords and tenants, has been responsible for improvement work including boosting the standards of rented homes in the district in the last year but started a new role with Berneslai Homes on Monday.

Empty homes - which have been magnets for fly-tippers - were top of Ms Millward’s agenda and her work with negligent landlords has seen tonnes of waste being cleared from empty properties’ gardens.
