A SURVEY will be carried out in the Dearne area this month to assess the local wildlife populations.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust will be at Bolton Brickyard ponds on Furlong Road to assess local mammal numbers.

Dearne South Coun Ralph Sixsmith said: "We are only one of 20 councils in the country to get Nature Improvement area status.

"They will be coming to Bolton then spinning out to other areas.

"I know they will look for any signs of otters because we are not a million miles away from the River Dearne."
