MOTORISTS on the M1 motorway have been advised to expect some delays due to major work between junctions 37 and 38.

Highways England are carrying out drain improvement work between Haigh and Dodworth as part of the £4m project to boost the stretch from Wakefield to Barnsley.

Narrow lanes are in place, as well as a 50mph limit, until the end of January following overnight work which closed both carriageways to traffic for four nights earlier this month.

As well as drainage repairs, improved central reservation barriers, work on the embankment and resurfacing will also be carried out.

Project manager Martin Barnes said: “We are carrying out a series of improvements along the M1 through Barnsley this month which will provide better journeys for drivers and improve road safety.

“Some of the work has been carried out overnight when traffic levels are at their lowest. There is a short section of narrow lanes and these will be in place 24 hours a day.”
