AS part of the £50m Better Barnsley project the council is in the process of organising the demolition of a large part of the town centre.

As part of the regeneration project the Central Offices building, the bridge across Kendray Street, and the multi-storey car park and associated ramps will all be flattened over the coming months.

The demolition will take place on a phased basis to minimise disruption to the town centre wherever possible.

To enable the demolition process to start in spring, the council will be seeking vacant possession of some retail units under the TEC building.

Last week the remaining three businesses trading underneath Central Offices closed.
