DRIVERS will be allowed to stay for longer at two town centre car parks and on-street parking areas under proposals drawn up by the council.

Barnsley Council wants to remove existing time limits at the Graham’s Orchard and St Mary’s Place car parks, as well as all on-street pay and display parking places in the town centre, to allow motorists to be able to stay for longer between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday, rather than having to leave after one or two hours.

The council published the proposals last Friday and wants to make the changes to provide more ‘flexible’ parking for shoppers and visitors to the town.
