LOTTERY funding of £1.2m has been awarded for a scheme which is designed to improve the quality of life for young people in the Elsecar and Wentworth.

A partnership created by Barnsley Council and Rotherham Council, has been set up to deliver activities focused on the ‘rich heritage stories’ of the two villages linked by their past, and funding has been won through the Great Place Scheme.

The scheme is designed to ensure that considerable investment in culture made by organisations like the Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England has the maximum positive impact on jobs, economic performance, educational attainment, community cohesion and health and well-being. It also aims to help civic organisations, local businesses and communities invest in culture and put it ‘at the heart of their thinking’.
