THERE were fears of a gas leak after a woman rolled down a banking in her car, coming to rest close to a gas pipe.

The black Rover Metro accidentally reversed through fencing on the forecourt of the Jet garage, Royston Lane, Royston, and ended up in the wall of the Bethel Church.

There is no significant damage to the building, but there was panic as rumours spread of a gas leak following the accident last Friday at 2.30pm.

A police spokesman said that the car came to a stop close to a gas pipe.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "We sent two fire engines, one from Cudworth station, and another from Barnsley.

"The fire crews had to cut the roof off of the car to free the woman who sustained a back injury. She was then taken to hospital."
