A FORMER Barnsley man has described the horror of being caught up amid the terror attack in the French city of Nice.

Damien Johnson lives a few yards from where an attacker in a lorry killed 84 people last Thursday.

Damien - who is half French but was raised in Barnsley - had planned to be ‘right where it happened’ to celebrate France’s national holiday but had taken a last minute decision to go for a drink at a bar a little further up the road.

“We heard the shots fired, but at first we thought it was just the fireworks,” said Damien, 31, who grew up in Honeywell and attended Priory school.
