Campaigners against plans to build a nickel processing and recycling plant fear their health could be at risk.

Proposals have been submitted to transform a disused warehouse in Dodworth into a treatment plant for up to 10,000 tonnes of contaminated metal a year.

The site, at Fallbank Industrial Estate, would be 'the first of its kind in the UK' using a specialised process to wash and dry high nickel alloy so it can be reused in the aerospace industry.

ELG Haniel Metals Ltd, based in Templeborough, Rotherham, which trades and processes raw materials for the stainless steel industry, is making the application, which would see up to 20 jobs created. But residents are worried about possible health effects after researching similar facilities in America.
