Ryan Hedges is ‘very close’ to returning to Barnsley’s starting 11 tomorrow while Brad Potts also has a chance of being involved.

Midfielder Potts has been out injured since the win over Gillingham on September 1. Ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Fleetwood Town, assistant coach Andreas Winkler said: “Maybe there is an option that he could play if he gets through training with no problem.”

Winger Hedges was named on the bench against Burton Albion on Saturday – his first inclusion in a matchday squad this season – before the game was called off. The Welsh international, who picked up an ankle injury in pre-season, has been back in full training for two weeks along with left-back Zeki Fryers. Both Hedges and Fryers played 45 minutes for the under 23s on Monday.

Winkler said: “Ryan Hedges is very close to the starting 11. He gives us more options, he’s a pacy player and a winger which we don’t have so much of in our squad. He will give us a chance to change our style a little bit.”

Striker Cauley Woodrow, who has been injured since his first training session after signing in August, is two weeks away from playing according to Winkler. The coach said: “He is already running but our physios will make him be patient.

“The one time he trained with us you could see he had something special and he is different to our other strikers. If you have a problem with a strained muscle, you have to wait a long time.”

Winger Lloyd Isgrove is also out injured and is not in training.
