BARNSLEY’S Home Library Service has expanded and is now able to offer loans of tablet devices thanks to an Arts Council England grant.

The service delivers tablets loaded with books and magazines, as well as physical books, to the homes of people who are unable to visit their local library due to ill health or disability. The service is also available to carers who have difficulty getting to their local library.

A range of resources are delivered to homes each month, including regular and large print books as well as audiobooks on cassette or CD.

The grant has allowed customers to now borrow tablet devices pre-loaded with games, magazines, audio-books and books.

Coun Jenny Platts said: “The grant from Arts Council England has helped the library team to extend their offer and open up services to those who find it difficult to access libraries in the borough.

“The new tablet devices provide a range of content for residents to view in their homes. It is wonderful that people are now able to access this new service.”
