A MANAGER at a Barnsley hotel with a 'heart of gold' who has been a 'tower of strength' to others has been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award.

Mabel Levitt, 60, of Overdale Road, Wombwell, has worked at the Encore Ramada hotel in Dodworth since it opened in January 2009.

She started as a part time breakfast host and is now the senior guest services manager, overseeing the whole operation of the hotel in the general managers absence.

She has been nominated in the Triumph over Adversity category by friend and colleague Ben Potterton.

Mabel has faced many adversities in her life, including the death of her son Simon aged 32.

Mabel's husband Roy has had heart problems for the last 15 years and has spent 15 weeks in hospital this year so far. He is now at home and is doing well.

She is also a carer for her 92-year-old mother Violet Nightingale.
