THE LONGBOW playing field’s likely future is in housing rather than recreation.

That’s according to Coun Caroline Saunders, who responded to concerns from a resident about the field’s use at this week’s Darfield Crime and Safety meeting.

The resident questioned whether the field, which currently stands empty off Barnsley Road, could potentially be used for sports again as it had years ago.

But Coun Saunders clarified only the playground area of the field, near Bly Road, is the council’s responsibility.

Coun Saunders said: “The trouble is there is no money for the council to cut it and it was not cut by us previously.

“Eventually it will be sold and I believe most of it will be marked up for housing.”
