HOYLAND'S town centre redevelopment scheme has formally gone into Barnsley Council with a decision likely in August.

The plans - in development for about four years - include a new public car park on Duke Street and a 12,000 sq ft supermarket and 80-space car park on Market Street.

There is also 10,000 sq ft of retail on Southgate behind the town hall, seven new kiosks on High Street and a new market at the end of Southgate.

Kerrie Whiteley, managing director of developer Resilienti which is working on the project with Barnsley Council, said: "We intend to remodel the whole of the town hall, erect the new kiosks and create the new market by early December 2015."

She said Lincolnshire-based Resilienti was in talks about a number of commercial uses as well as residential for the upper floors of the old town hall.
