BACK in the 1990s crooner Carl Pickering honed his karaoke skills like many others in the pubs of Hoyland Ð but his versions of the classics had a twist.

He remodelled the lyrics to reflect the characters who shared space at the bar, so the likes of Elvis and Harry Connick wouldn’t quite recognise their own material.

Although his life is now dedicated to his career as a builder Carl never forgot his good-natured interpretations and many others remember them too.

So to preserve his own slice of Hoyland history, he has committed them to a professionally recorded CD and has raised cash for Barnsley Hospice in the process.
