Striker Sam Winnall is desperate to recapture the form that saw him score eight goals in as many games.

Prior to picking up the hamstring injury that kept him out throughout December and the majority of January, the 24-year-old marksman scored at Sheffield United, bagged a hat-trick against Burton Albion and netted in the win against Colchester to take his season tally to nine.

Eight goals in as many games began to justify the transfer fee the Reds splashed out for him in the summer. Winnall admits that it's been hard watching Danny Wilson's side suffer from the sidelines but says he is now raring to start.

He said: "It (the injury) was the most ill-timed. I was playing well and scoring goals. Now I've got to build back up to that level. "My confidence hasn't changed and I'm just looking to get my match fitness back up. When I'm back to full sharpness, I can carry on where I left off. I want to play every minute of every game. I feel as if I'd be ready to start."

Without Winnall, who picked up the injury against former club Scunthorpe United in late November, Barnsley failed to win in seven of ten games – beating only lowly Leyton Orient and Yeovil and winning at Chester in the FA Cup. They also failed to score in games against Chester, Preston North End, Middlesbrough, Doncaster Rovers and MK Dons.
