A FINANCIAL advisor who ran the Santander agency branch in Cudworth has been jailed for seven years after pleading guilty to fraud totalling £234,000.

Andrew Burton, 50, of Fearn House Crescent, Hoyland, admitted to a number of charges of fraud relating to crimes committed against customers at the Cudworth agency - money which has since been returned to customers.

He was also found not guilty of a number of other charges.

A Santander spokesman said: “Andrew Burton was the proprietor of the Cudworth Agency (which closed in 2014). He ran an Independent Financial Advisor (IFA) business from the premises and was not an employee of Santander.

“As soon as we were notified of the fraud involving our customers, we worked closely with the authorities. All customers were fully refunded. If a customer is ever a victim of fraud through no fault of their own we will ensure they incur no financial loss.

“Santander takes fraud extremely seriously and always co-operates fully with the authorities to ensure justice is served.”
