A LOCAL charity that helps families and friends of people with drug and alcohol problems could close within months.

Barnsley Beacon was founded in 2000 and demand for its services and support for those battling addiction has grown annually.

But the vital financial support needed to keep going has dwindled and the service has only enough money to keep going for another four months.

Barnsley Beacon offers a telephone helpline, one-to-one and group support sessions, respite activities and social events.

Last year, the charity helped 103 people over 605 sessions and has seen demand for its services rise by around 20 per cent in recent months.
