TODAY marks 70 years since the end of the Second World War and Barnsley is to fall silent to commemorate Victory in Europe Day.

Mayor Coun Tim Shepherd is leading the two-minute silence in front of the war memorial outside Barnsley Town Hall at 3pm. A bugler will sound the Last Post and the Reveille to mark the start and end.

People who contributed to the war effort have been invited to join him, including service veterans, former Bevan Boys and Land Army girls. Barnsley's remaining Normandy veterans will also be there.
