A WOMBWELL man is hoping to finally let in the light after serial vandals caused him to board up his front windows - more than thirteen years ago.

Lester Vickers, 60, of Barnsley Road, said the cost and frequency of his front windows being repeatedly broken by youths led him to make the decision to board them up in 2002. This year, he is hoping to finally take the panels down and fit double glazing.

He said: "When I first had them smashed, it was the odd pebble. Then it escalated.

"A four-foot log was stuck through the window and into the back of my TV. That was the deciding factor in boarding up."
