THE organist at a Royston Church has been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award for 50 years of service.

Peter Arblaster has played every Sunday without fail and will celebrate the milestone achievement in September.

He has been nominated by his friend Joyce Hotchkiss, of Meadow Crescent, Royston, who said he travels to the church every Sunday and has never had a break, except for holidays and illness - he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Peter played the organ at Joyce's wedding 45 years ago and is still going strong.

She said he was also a valued member of the church had was also on the Parochial Church Council.

"He has battled through prostate cancer and other problems but always comes back fighting. He is a lovely man with a lovely family and we are all proud to know him."
