A PAIR of Penistone pensioners avoided a fright in the night when they slept through a car crashing into their garden wall.

Peter and Mollie Marsden woke to find a badly damaged dry stone wall and a black Vauxhall Astra being pulled on to the back of a recovery lorry outside their bungalow on the corner of Wellhouse Lane and Barnsley Road.

The incident occurred at about 2am on Sunday.

South Yorkshire Police say a 22-year-old man from Leeds has been charged in connection with the incident, although they were unable to confirm on what charges. He has been bailed and will appear at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on November 17. Nobody was injured during the incident.
