GRAND plans to reopen the former Chicago Rock pub as a ‘Nando’s’ style restaurant have gone up in smoke following yesterday’s inferno which gutted the iconic town centre building.
The Wellington Street landmark was under refurbishment and was set to become Regency Bar and Grill on the ground floor with future plans to turn the upper floors - home of the former Hedonism nightclub - into a soft play area or laser quest.
On Wednesday the Regency Bar and Grill Facebook page had advertised an open taster day for people to try the food before deciding on a final menu - but hours later the building was being ravaged by fire.
Barnsley businessman Phil Booth was in the middle of renovating the Grade II listed building and just a few weeks ago told the Chronicle about his grand plans for the former pub.
