BRITISH Transport Police are appealing to the public to help identify a man who left a train at Barnsley after racially abusing a fellow passenger.

The incident occurred sometime between 11pm and 11.30pm last Saturday, on a train travelling between Sheffield and Huddersfield.

Investigating officer PC Stephen Slocombe said: "The victim was subjected to a tirade of racist abuse from a fellow passenger who boarded the service at Sheffield

"This was a very busy service and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the abuse or who can help to identify the man responsible to come forward to assist us with our enquiries."

The man is described as being white with short, brown hair, and aged between 45 to 55. At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark jacket with a white polo shirt underneath.
