SOUTH Yorkshire Police’s most senior officers have now personally carried out 19 quality control checks on the service crime victims have received from the force, with most reporting positive feedback.
But Chief Constable Stephen Watson has warned that he will chase up any complaints of dissatisfaction which he takes while making random checks on those who have dealt with police following crimes, stating: “Woe betide the individual who has let down a member of the public, because I will deal with it in person.”
From the 19 cases checked by the senior command team, Mr Watson, his deputy and assistant chief constables, 15 had been “perfectly satisfactory” with three not handled to the correct standard one one needing further attention.
“Sometimes, people say the officer was great, but& .. It is sometimes the follow up that is not so good.”
Most satisfaction checks are done by regular staff, but the input from the senior command team is designed to allow those officers to develop a hands-on feel for the way the force deals with crime victims.
“It is not meant to be anything other than supportive,” said Mr Watson.
