THE widow of well known Barnsley policeman Bill Harber said she had been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from Barnsley people following his death.

Bill - famed for his distinctive handlebar moustache - is well remembered from his days directing traffic in Barnsley town centre, and died earlier this month aged 86.

His funeral takes place on Monday and his widow Doris said she could not let it go ahead without publicly thanking the people of Barnsley for their support and tributes.

“I want to thank the people of Barnsley, and Wakefield, for taking Bill to their hearts,” said Mrs Harber, 85, who had lived with her husband in Wakefield in recent years.”
