A RACING greyhound who ran more than 200 races during his successful career is now enjoying his retirement with his new loving family from Barnsley.

Spartan the greyhound is now living with Ian and Mavis Thomas who took him in after a visit to the Sheffield Retired Greyhound Trust.

Spartan was given a special coat by the Owlerton Greyhound Stadium to congratulate him on his 200 career races.

Lynda Cattlin, who runs the Sheffield Retired Greyhound Trust, said: "He achieved such a lot in his career so we wanted to recognise this before he went to his forever home, which was the idea behind the coat. It seemed a fitting way to celebrate him beginning the new chapter in his life."
