Barnsley crashed out of the Carabao Cup with a 3-1 first round loss at League One rivals Blackpool on Tuesday evening.

George Moncur's sensational volley put the Reds ahead in the first half but the conceded three times in a disappointing second half display.

Daniel Stendel made six changes to the side who had won the first two league matches of the season. Most of the changes were in midfield where George Moncur, Lloyd Isgrove and Cameron McGeehan came in for Brad Potts, Mamadou Thiam and Alex Mowatt.

Jack Walton replaced Adam Davies in goal with Adam Jackson coming in for Liam Lindsay at centre-back and Victor Adeboyejo deputising for Kieffer Moore up front. Adeboyejo was the lone striker with Bradshaw, Moncur and Isgrove an attacking three behind him.

Blackpool had the first chance of the game in the seventh minute when ex-Red John O'Sullivan went clean through after exchanging passes with Mark Cullen but he fired across goal from the left of the box.

Moncur and Dani Pinillos saw long-range efforts easily saved by home goalkeeper Mark Howard while Jordan Thompson's 20-yard shot for the hosts just missed the top left corner.

Moncur opened the scoring on 19 minutes with a fantastic volley into the top right corner from just inside the box after Dimitri Cavare's right-wing cross dropped for him.

Cullen almost levelled on 31 minutes when a long ball split the home defence but he had to slide in on the volley and Walton got down to his left to comfortably save the weak effort.

Barnsley were inches away from a second goal as Ethan Pinnock headed a left-wing corner against the post from five yards out then Jackson blazed the rebound across the face of goal.

Moncur had two more long-range efforts, both low and from just outside the box with Howard diving to his left then right to make fairly comfortable saves.

Curtis Tilt headed a Blackpool corner over the bar from three yards out then a Dani Pinillos left-wing low cross was flicked on by Bradshaw then hit Adeboyejo in the six-yard box and went over.

The hosts levelled five minutes into the second half when Michael Nottingham hooked in after Mark Cullen had hit the bar from a yard out during in a goal mouth scramble. That came from a corner caused by McGeehan losing the ball in his half then Walton having to make a good one-on-one save from Armand Gnanduillet.

Adeboyejo should have put the visitors 2-1 ahead when sent clean through on goal by Bradshaw but he was denied by Howard after running into yards of space. Instead it was the hosts who made it two goals in six minutes when a cross from the right came to Harry Pritchard in yards of space on the left side of the box and he curled an impressive 15-yard efforts into the top right corner.

Blackpool could have made it 3-1 but Gnanduillet fired wide from a tight angle then Nick Anderton headed just wide. Cavare was one of the Reds' best players and he exchanged passes with substitute Brad Potts as he burst into the home box then pulled the ball back for Bradshaw who miskicked eight yards out.

It was soon 3-1 in controversial circumstances as Gnanduillet smashed in a 20-yard free-kick given for a handball by Walton who seemed to have been pushed out of the box by a Blackpool player.

Substitute Nathan Delfouneso nearly made it 4-1 but was denied one-on-one by Walton then substitute Thiam and Moncur fired wide but Barnsley crashed out of the cup.
