Oliver Rowland is expecting a ‘baptism of fire’ when he makes his Formula E debut for his new team this weekend.

The 26-year-old from Penistone has signed up with Nissan e.dams for the 2018/19 season which begins in Saudi Arabia tomorrow at the Riyadh Street Circuit event.

Rowland, who lives in Dodworth, is hoping to challenge for the title in the competition for electric cars. He said: “I am looking forward to it but it will be a baptism of fire.

“I signed up quite late so I haven’t had that much preparation time with the team or the car. But I have done a lot of simulator work and spoken to the engineers a lot. There is no reason why I can’t be fighting at the front.”
