TWO young shop assistants were left fearing for their lives after they were confronted by an armed robber.

The women were at work in the Lifestyle Express Off Licence, Newsagent and Convenience Store in High Street, Royston on Monday night when a man they thought was a customer walked in at around 7.25pm.

He walked up to the counter before turning around to face the other way.

He then swung around and produced a large kitchen knife and screamed a demand for cash at the two assistants.

One of the assistants, who did not want to be named, told the Chronicle:

“I thought he was just a normal customer and then he suddenly swung around with a big knife in his hand and shouted that he wanted all our cash.”
