Daniel Stendel was delighted that Barnsley won in Blackpool to return to the top six.

The Reds ended a winless run of four games with a 1-0 success in front of more than 1,500 fans at Bloomfield Road.  Stendel, whose side had lost four out of five on the road, said: “It was a very good away performance from us. We had a lot of big chances but 1-0 is good.

"It is not too easy to win in Blackpool, the pitch makes it very difficult to play good football. It was very soft and muddy so it was not easy too play passing, technical game. But my team played very well and deserved to win.

“We hadn’t won for four games, the players wanted to win more and it was a good test of our mentality. You can feel in the dressing room that we are all happy. The players work very hard for results like this every week.

“We haven’t won for a few games and we were not in the top six but the fans still supported us. I was happy to win for them and it is good we have such a close relationship.”

Stendel played Kieffer Moore on the left wing with Mamadou Thiam on his own up front and Cauley Woodrow just behind the Frenchman. He said: “We noticed that, in the last games, sometimes we didn’t have enough payers in the box and we wanted to change that.”

Cameron McGeehan got the winning goal in the 59th minute. Stendel said: “He was not only good in this game but a lot of games. Every game he has been getting better and better. He has improved a lot. I am very satisfied with him.”

McGeehan said: “I am very happy. We needed to win because it’s been a little bit of a bad spell. But we had a good performance last week (the 1-1 home draw with Portsmouth) and dominated the best team in the league then another good performance and a win today. We are focusing on being more ruthless and seeing games out. The travelling fans helped us get the win over the line.

“It’s a poor pitch. It suits their play but we can mix it up as well. The goal came from a good bit of play and this league is all about going to different types of places and getting points.”

McGeehan headed in Brad Potts’ cross from two yards out. He said: “I have had trademark for goals like that in my career. I have not been doing it as much this season because I have been playing deep but the gaffer told me in the last few weeks to go forward a bit more.”
