THE male dancers in this year's Strictly Come Dancing have got countless female fans' hearts all a flutter.

But as far as the ladies at the Parkerdance school in Barnsley are concerned, they don't necessarily want heartthrobs - just men who can or want to learn to dance.

Amanda Parker says the Strictly dance phenomena has failed to filter down to local blokes, leaving many ladies desperate for a male partner.

As the popularity of the show grows, so do the number of ladies bitten by the dancing bug, but the men are not so inspired.

Amanda runs weekly dance classes at the Masonic Hall in Gilroyd and at Gilroyd WMC and also hosts a Friday afternoon tea dance at the Masonic Hall.

But most of the time the ladies have to dance with each other because there are just not enough men to go round.

"They enjoy dancing, but it's not really the same dancing with another woman rather than what they are supposed to do which is dancing with a man," she said.

"So my message to all the men in Barnsley is please come along because we have lots of lovely ladies all eager and willing to dance with you and you will have a lovely time."

The tea dance at the Masonic Hall in Cockerham Lane is on Fridays from 2pm until 4pm.
