TEENAGE taekwondo star Daniel Moody became British champion after taking home the gold medal at the sport's annual championships.

The Penistone Grammar School pupil, 13, put in an outstanding performance to triumph in the 41kg category for 11 to 14-year-olds.

He took up the sport at the age of five and trains at Quest Taekwondo, based at his school.

Coach Mike McKenzie said: "The championships are considered the key UK event of the year for competing athletes. Daniel and his team mates gave fantastic performances."

Quest won a total of 12 medals from 18 athletes at the event in Manchester, which was attended by more than 600 competitors.

Daniel's fellow grammar school pupils Luke Jones, 13, and Holly Ullyott, 15, both won bronze in their respective categories, while Penistone girl Amber Carroll, 13, claimed silver.
