Daniel Stendel says Ben Williams has a ‘good chance’ to continue as Barnsley’s first choice left-back and believes he is an example for the club’s other young players to follow.

The 19-year-old has started all four matches in 2019, initially replacing the injured Dani Pinillos who is now fit. Zeki Fryers is also fit but has only played three league games this season and none since December 8.

Stendel said of Williams: “It’s not too easy for a young player. He cannot play every week at the highest level. But we support him every week and give him help to improve. It was not easy for him at Wimbledon (a 4-1 win on Saturday) and we substituted him because he had a yellow card and he has a good chance to play next week.

“He is a good example to other young players. The club wants us to play young players but we can only do it if they show a good attitude and performance in training. Ben and Jacob Brown are doing that.”
