A NEW Clean Green and Tidy 'task force' could be operating across the Penistone area as early as this summer after councillors gave the go-ahead to find a contractor to do the work.

The first contract will run for 18 months and £160,000 has been made available from funds supplied by Barnsley Council through the Penistone Area Council to pay for the work.

Councillors have now agreed to put the contract out to tender, with a remit that will cover jobs such as litter picking, graffiti removal, controlling brambles and tidying up areas of land.
