DONATIONS to the Tiny Hearts appeal incubator at Barnsley Hospital have raised £50,380 towards a new special care baby unit.

The charity aims to raise £1m, and had set a target of raising £50,000 through the adapted incubator in the main reception which people can drop a donation in to.

But thanks to generous Barnsley folk, that figure was surpassed before December.

Lisa Calvert, the charity’s co-ordinator, said: “We’re over the moon to blast through that target so quickly. Initially we had asked for people to donate some old one pound coins after they were decommissioned but we got more than we bargained for which is great. It goes a long way towards the overall target of one million pounds which we set out to achieve in 2014.”

So far, the Tiny Hearts appeal has raised almost £590,000.
