WOMEN registered at a Wombwell GP practice have been selected for breast screening as part of a pilot scheme.

All women aged between 50 and 70 registered with Wombwell Medical Centre have been invited for a screening appointment.

But some women registered at the practice have been selected as part of a pilot scheme and will be called for screening between the ages of 47 and 49, and 71 and 73 at the breast screening unit at Barnsley Hospital, which has an all-female team.

Judith Clark, superintendent radiographer at Barnsley’s breast screening unit, said: “Mammograms can detect breast cancer before any visible signs or symptoms and it’s this early detection that makes attending your screening appointment vital. The earlier breast cancer is detected the better your chances of successful treatment and a full recovery.”
