A FORMER Barnsley woman who was appointed MBE for services to museums and education in 2013 has been named an OBE in the Queen’s 2020 honours list.

Sue Wilkinson, who attended Barnsley Girls’ High School from 1970 to 1977, recently retired as the chief executive of The Reading Agency, a literacy charity.

The 60-year-old’s OBE is for services to literature and public libraries and comes after she secured a £2m award from the Big Lottery Fund for ‘Reading Friends’, a project which tackles loneliness through reading.
