THE quality of teaching, learning and assessment have all improved at a Barnsley school which was previously judged to require improvement.

Barnsley Academy was visited by Ofsted inspectors for its first monitoring inspection since it was judged to require improvement in September.

They found leadership and management had improved and high expectations were clear to both staff and pupils.

In a report addressed to executive principal Nikki Shaw, inspector Helen Lane wrote: “You know the school well and your drive to improve the life chances of the people in your care is at the centre of the actions you are taking to improve the school. Your improvement plans are detailed, clear and evaluated honestly against criteria for success.

“As a result, the quality of teaching, learning and assessment and outcomes for pupils have improved.”
