A CUDWORTH bowling club faces an uncertain future due to persistent antisocial behaviour.

Membership has plummeted at the Dorothy Hyman Bowling Club, which thrived with 27 members two years ago but now has just eight people on its books.

Secretary Guy Barnes blames antisocial behaviour for the sharp decline and said the club was even thrown out of a league last year due to litter on its bowling greens which had blown from the nearby skatepark - a hotspot for youths.

“People are leaving to go to different clubs because it’s that bad,” he said. “I’m trying to keep it alive and I’m doing my best to keep it going but it’s killing the club.”

A spokesman from Barnsley Premier Leisure (BPL), which runs the venue, said: “BPL and the council have been working together to assist the club in addressing the problems they have identified within the area.”
