CAMPAIGNERS battling to save a historic Grimethorpe building hope it could become a major Barnsley tourist attraction in years to come.

Local residents are desperately trying to preserve Grimethorpe Hall, a Grade II-listed building dating back to 1670, and have big plans for its future.

John Hardman and his fellow campaigners are attempting a last-ditch rescue mission to save the building before it crumbles away forever.

He said: "Other listed buildings in the area, such as Cannon Hall, Brodsworth Hall and Wentworth Castle, are now major landmarks and visitor attractions so if we can save Grimethorpe Hall it will boost the Barnsley economy and be a great community asset."
