COURTING couples have been getting parish councillors in Cawthorne hot under the collar.

Amorous antics have triggered protests about ‘not very nice’ littering near the local cricket ground.

At the annual meeting of the parish council, Coun Stephen Eyre said: “The debris and the behaviour was quite disgraceful and it is going to be a problem.”

He said couples were gathering at the bottom of Dark Lane and wondered if a barrier could be put up to deter parking in the area.

Coun Margaret Broadhead said the same area used to be a haunt for drug users but that problem had ceased.

“The litter these people leave behind is not very nice,” said Coun Eyre. “I have never known the situation to be so bad.”

Coun Peter Kilner said the area could be pinpointed as a target for a forthcoming village litter-pick.
