A CHESHIRE couple who have become devoted fans of Barnsley Youth Choir forked out just over £7,000 for a guitar signed by Ed Sheeran at the choir’s charity auction on Friday night.
The choir is looking to raise £50,000 to take 61 of its top singers to the European Choir Games in Latvia this summer.
The guitar was the star lot at the auction at the Holiday Inn, hosted by Stephanie Hirst and auction master Dan Jarvis.
However to help make sure it reached the best possible price, the guitar was also available to the whole world through the website eBay, and the live auction in the room was paused at 10.30pm while the last moments of the eBay auction were shown on a big screen.
The price jumped up to £7,051.56 and a cheer gradually spread when it became clear the winning bidder was in the room.
