A 16-year-old has set herself the task of raising £50,000 to put her through three years of performing arts college.

Shauna Hall, of Quern Way, Darfield, was recently offered places at four independent colleges - Laine Theatre Arts, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, Performers College and Bird College.

But, with no public funding available, she is holding a number of events to help raise the £16,512 she will need each year to complete the three-year course.

These include a family race night at Hoyland Common WMC from 7.30pm on Friday and a song and dance night at Horizon College, Barnsley, on July 15 from 7pm.

Shauna has been singing and dancing since she was two years old at the Kathryn Downs Academy of Dance and mum Jackie said the thought she could miss out on her dream of becoming a professional performer was 'heartbreaking'.

She said: "Shauna has dedicated her whole life to dance and performing arts and has given up so much over the years, so being accepted into these colleges is a dream come true and we are all so proud.

"She's also been awarded scholarships for the last five years for training once a month at the British Ballet Organisation. It's is a once in a lifetime opportunity that shouldn't be allowed to slip away."

Anyone wishing to support either of the fundraising events being organised by Shauna should call Jackie on 07943955271.
