A TEENAGER who has been dancing for 15 years has earned herself a place in two prestigious dance finals.

Next year Beth Swain will dance in Blackpool at the Miss Dance of Great Britain finals and the Champion of Champions finals.

Last month, the 17-year-old of Hall Bank in Barnsley, performed a song and dance number from the musical, The Colour Purple, where she saw off 38 other competitors in her heat to bag herself a spot in next years national Miss Dance finals.

The finals, which will be held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool next June, see a number of dancers who have won a regional heat from all over the country come together to compete in a series of dance-offs to fight for the overall title of Miss Dance.

This has followed on from when she last competed in July where she won the Senior Song and Dance South Yorkshire Championship and managed to bag herself a place at the Champion of Champions dance finals.

These finals are also held in Blackpool, but this time in January and at the Marine Hall Theatre, where championship winners in tap, ballet, modern and song and dance will battle to be crowned the Champion of Champions in each of these categories.

Beth has been attending the Lisa Thornley School of Dance since she was two years old and so far is the only student at the school who will be attending both of these events.

Samantha, who is Beth’s mum, said: “We are really really proud of her. She has worked really hard for this and she has been so determined to do well.

“She is shocked and over the moon that she will be performing at both the events next year and she is looking forward to performing.

“She wouldn’t be where she is now if it wasn’t for the support of the teachers at her dancing school. They’ve guided her and helped her to get to where she is now.”

Beth is currently in her last year at Barnsley College studying musical theatre and she is currently looking into and auditioning for performing arts colleges in London.

She is wanting to make a career out of her dancing and the end goal for her is either to be a theatre performer on the West End or to tour across the country dancing.
