A LOUD bang could be heard across the town centre in the night as the old multi-storey car park came crashing down.

The area had been cordoned off since 10pm at a circular distance of 150 metres and more than 80 staff including security, police and demolition personnel were on hand to ensure the demolition went off safely.

Plans for the demolition have been in place for the past 18 months and due to safety, the Chronicle was not able to reveal the exact date and time of the demolition.

It cost £450,000 to blow the car park up.

There will be an exclusive interview with Precision Demolition Company (PDC) - the company who planted the explosives, as well as information on what happens next in the Chronicle next Friday.
