PARENTS joined striking dinner ladies as a second wave of action took place at a school on Wednesday.

Parents joined in the protest with the staff and Unison representatives picketing outside Ladywood Primary in Grimethorpe following proposals to make nine dinner ladies redundant.

Jordan Stapleton, area organiser for Unison said: “We have received a lot of support from parents, local residents and Stephanie Peacock MP during our second day of industrial action.

“These job loses will be devastating for our dinner ladies and it’s unfair on the teaching assistants to carry out their duties. Importantly, these job losses will be bad for the pupils.

“Our members are friends, neighbours and family - and they are determined to stick together. We urge the school governors and management to reconsider their plans.”

A further picket took place yesterday, and there are three more days of strike action planned for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.
