BARNSLEY FC has had more fans arrested at games this season than any other club in the Football League, according to the club's own chief executive.

Ben Mansford said the poor record was 'affecting cash flow'.

Police confirmed 14 fans from the town had each been charged with one count of violent disorder and bailed to appear before magistrates in Newcastle later this month.

It follows violent clashes in Burslem town centre and outside Vale Park, in Hamil Road, involving Barnsley and Port Vale fans on September 20.

The clash between Port Vale and Barnsley last year was cited as the reason for Saturday's game at Oakwell being 'all ticket', with no-cash turnstiles in operation.

In his match day notes for Saturday's programme, Mr Mansford wrote about how there is a perception Barnsley has the worst behaved fans out of 92 league clubs.

He wrote: "While statistics don't always bear the true picture, it's clear that we have got the most number of fans who have been arrested and we've had the most number of incidents connected to antisocial behaviour."

He revealed how the police bill for Saturday's match was more than £17,000.
