X FACTOR star Holly Tandy has been confirmed as a headline act for the revived Coalfields Festival next month.

The festival had been held in Darton every year since 2014 and last year’s raised £25,000 for Barnsley Hospice, but organisers said it would be the last with increasing costs, logistics and tighter regulations among the reasons it had become more difficult to stage.

But Barnsley Woolley Cricket Club has agreed to stage the event.

Steve Bell, fund-raising chairman for the club, said: “There’s going to be bands, food, a bar, amusements and rides for the kids. It’s going to be a very family-focussed festival. It will be a ticket-only event to ensure it doesn’t get overcrowded, and under-18s will need to be accompanied by an adult.”

The event is at the cricket club on Saturday July 14 from noon. Tickets are on sale at Skiddle.com as well as at the Co-op in Mapplewell or Darton, Barnsley Hospice shops in Mapplewell and the town centre, and the Rose and Crown Pub.
